False Alarm Management

Strategies for identifying, documenting, and reducing false alarm triggers.

Overview

False alarms waste resources and can lead to missed real threats. Effective management involves a mix of automated AI filtering, proper device installation, and operational oversight.

Key Strategies

1. AI object Classification

Utilize GCXONE's AI to filter out non-threatening movement like animals, wind-blown foliage, or light reflections. Ensure your Priority and Blacklist properties are tuned for the specific environment.

2. Device Tuning

If a device consistently sends false triggers:

  • Masking: Use masking in the camera configuration to exclude high-traffic public areas or moving objects like trees.
  • IVS Calibration: Use Intelligent Video Surveillance (IVS) rules (Line Crossing, Intrusion) instead of simple motion detection.

3. Verification Procedures

Operators should always "Verify" an alarm using the associated video clip or live stream before escalating to emergency services.

Reporting and Analysis

Use the Analytics Dashboard to track false alarm rates per site. Sites with high rates should be investigated for physical camera adjustments or re-configuration.
