This glossary provides definitions for common terms used within the GCXONE platform and the wider security industry.
Platform Hierarchy & Core Concepts
- Tenant: The top-level organization (e.g., a Monitoring Station or Service Provider).
- Customer: The end-user or client organization under a Tenant.
- Site: A physical location being monitored (e.g., "Main Warehouse").
- Device: The main hardware unit (gateway, NVR, DVR) connected to GCXONE.
- Sensor / Camera: Individual channels or sensors attached to a Device.
- Workflow: A predefined sequence of automated actions triggered by an alarm.
Operational Terms
- ARM / DISARM: Enabling or disabling alarm reporting for a site or device.
- Isolate: Temporarily bypassing a specific sensor or camera from triggering alarms.
- Site Pulse / Lifecheck: A regular "heartbeat" signal sent by a device to verify connectivity.
Technical Terminology
- NVR (Network Video Recorder): A specialized computer system that records video in a digital format to a disk drive.
- RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol): A network control protocol designed for use in entertainment and communications systems to control streaming media servers.
- SIP (Session Initiation Protocol): A signaling protocol used for initiating, maintaining, and terminating real-time sessions that include voice, video, and messaging applications.
- Webhook: A method of augmenting or altering the behavior of a web page or web application with custom callbacks.
- PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom): Controls for moving a camera and adjusting its focal length.
- I/O (Input/Output): Ports used for connecting external sensors (Inputs) and triggering relays (Outputs).
- Analytics: Automated video analysis such as motion detection, human/vehicle classification, and line crossing.
- Alarm Filtering: Logic and algorithms used to reduce false alarms by verifying events.
